26 Jun Herbs, Spices + Your Microbiome

Don’t you hate it when a food looks really good in a restaurant or at a friends house… until you take a bite and it’s bland and needs a bit of flavour? I think we have all been there. Sometimes all you need is a pinch of salt, a sprinkle of cinnamon or a dash of fresh herbs. I’m constantly reaching for herbs and spices to pimp my food. I want my food to sing, crunch, pop, sizzle, full of spice and all things nice. Why? Because herbs and spices not only add flavour but they add extra nutrients and healthy properties to boost any meal. They are small but mighty and your mircobiome loves them.  If I am honest, there are numerous veggies I’m not crazy about but when they are slathered and hidden in among flavours you are going to be more inclined to eat not only the veg you don’t like but more veggies in general. The most common excuse for not eating brussel sprouts is because boiled sprouts are gross!! I totally agree. But lathered in ghee, sprinkled with smoked paprika and roasted they are one of my fav winter veggies. Learning to introduce herbs and spices will open you...

23 May Don’t reach for that Vitamin C this winter

I finally get to use this line from Game of Thrones because "Winter Is Coming" (insert theme song here). Luckily down-under we don't have to deal with severe winters, Australia has pretty mild winters and I consider ourselves lucky, because I'm not a fan of the cold. But just like the rest of the world we still get sick down here because there is a change in season and every year there is talk of the flu vaccine (which you could not force me to get even if you offered me a bagillion dollars) and I love observing how people almost proudly comparing how their cold was worse than yours or visa versa. Have you ever noticed this phenomenon? I remember as a kid having a cough or a runny nose and mum would make me take some vitamin c or drink some orange juice or have an orange. God bless her… she was only doing what was the norm and pretty much everyone still does this today when they feel a cold coming on. But the truth is that taking vitamin C when you start to feel unwell has no preventative measures once you are actually sick. Every year (around winter) you...

25 Apr 3 Gut Destroying Pantry Items and what to use instead

I get it, overload of information haha. As you can see I am just a little passionate about eliminating gut destroying foods. By simply swapping some of your pantry items over to more healthful ones can be super beneficial for your overall health in the long run. It is almost to simple and that is part of the reason we don’t do it… we just think we will get round to it eventually, can you relate to this? Now is your chance and hopefully this video has sparked a fire inside of you to grab the bin and start ditching all the crap that is sneakily destroying your health and could be the leading cause to some weird and unexplained symptoms.   Over the years testing and experimenting with different less “main stream” food items has been a passion and I have found that simply swapping items has made a huge difference to my health, my friends health and also my family. I have found it extremely fun to learn how to cook with different item not everyone has heard of, sometimes they take a bit of getting used to but other times they are an easy sub. I have found that...

10 Apr The Only Kitchen Appliance You Need.

So as you can see having a blender has been the most used appliance in my house. I friggin love it and i use it every morning and most nights!! I personally have 2 horse powers mixing up my smoothies meaning it’s a “fast speed blender” it is an Optimum 9400 and has been fantastic, I could not live without it. It has a 10 yr warranty, so although it might seem expensive you are fully covered with confidence. I make sauces such as bolognese sauce for my sudo zucchetti. I make pesto and add kale for added nutrients. You can make nut butters and mayo… dressings… banana icecream. Vegan icecreams, nut milks, dips and bullettproof coffee. I love a good curry but found that they were loaded with vegetable oil so took the ingredients list from store bought curry pastes and made them myself out of fresh herbs and spices (minus the additives and nasty stuff). With a blender it is easy to make your food from scratch to avoid all the additives and i have not had to buy packets and store bought sauces and jars for many years all because i can do them in my blender. Hopefully you will give...
