17 Jan Reset Your Gut Health After The Silly Season

I don’t know about you but I have thoroughly enjoyed the silly season… maybe a little too much. If you are anything like me, there have been plenty of excuses to indulge, enjoy a little extra alcohol and a few to many bowls of chips. Are you feeling a little sluggish and like your gut might need a bit of TLC? Nourishing your gut doesn’t have to be hard or stressful, there are some really simple gut nourishing foods you could be consuming daily to give your gut the boost it needs but that will take time. To be completely honest it’s really about avoiding some select foods for a short space of time (I suggest 1 week) to give your gut a chance to heal is a much better approach to quickly repair all the assaults it has copped over the xmas silly season. These foods work for literally everyone, whether you have had gut issues or not. Your gut lining is constantly repairing itself so it needs consistent care but a 1 week intensive repair session could boost your mood, lift the brain fog and restore a better belly. 12 Sep Aloe Vera, the medicinal gut healer internally and externally.

Aloe Vera is (as you know) a plant, it’s resilient, great for sunburns but also amazing for gut health and skin care!! Since I struggled with acne and skin scarring aloe has always been a medicinal staple for me both internally and externally… but you may not know how good it is for your gut and digestion so let me divulge. If you follow me on instagram (@welcomingwellness) you will know I recently moved and have been posting some of my gardening antics. I Have not only been freaking out (in a good way) over the added space but also freaking out about the fact that I have a small patch of lawn to ground myself on daily… eeeek so exciting because I have been a city slicker for close to a decade. So it was time to get my hands dirty and do some gardening, find a bigger pot for my aloe babies. There are 2 things you should know with aloe vera… it’s hard to kill and it should...

26 Jun Herbs, Spices + Your Microbiome

Don’t you hate it when a food looks really good in a restaurant or at a friends house… until you take a bite and it’s bland and needs a bit of flavour? I think we have all been there. Sometimes all you need is a pinch of salt, a sprinkle of cinnamon or a dash of fresh herbs. I’m constantly reaching for herbs and spices to pimp my food. I want my food to sing, crunch, pop, sizzle, full of spice and all things nice. Why? Because herbs and spices not only add flavour but they add extra nutrients and healthy properties to boost any meal. They are small but mighty and your mircobiome loves them.  If I am honest, there are numerous veggies I’m not crazy about but when they are slathered and hidden in among flavours you are going to be more inclined to eat not only the veg you don’t like but more veggies in general. The most common excuse for not eating brussel sprouts is because boiled sprouts are gross!! I totally agree. But lathered in ghee, sprinkled with smoked paprika and roasted they are one of my fav winter veggies. Learning to introduce herbs and spices will open you...

There are tons of gut healing supplements out on the market and some can be expensive and you have no idea if they are going to work or not, which can be frustrating. Or they are obscure and you have to travel to the other side of the earth to find them. I’m all about simplicity otherwise you will never use these amazing gut healing supplements and foods on a daily basis. I have struggled with my gut health for years now and have wasted a ton of money of stuff that doesn't work and also seen great results with others. These 3 dietary items are what i consume daily as preventative and protective measures. It takes time to heal your gut and I have healed and also slipped back into bad habits in the past which forced me to get really good at implementing preventative foods and supplements into my diet daily for general maintenance. I have tried and made errors and have had plenty of practice healing my gut. 3 things I have seen great results with are: Chia seeds Psyllium Husks L-Glutamine   Chia seed pudding :  Mix 1 Tbs chia seeds to ½ cup of non dairy milk (preferably almond or coconut) whisk for...
